Filipino swimmer Carlos Brosas was 14-years-old when he won silver in the 4 × 100 metres freestyle relay at the 1970 Asian Games. Two years later Brosas swam in five races at the 1972 München Olympics, including the 100 and 200 metres butterfly events. Following his competitive swimming career he became a successful coach with the national team, including working as the head coach at several editions of the Olympics. Several of the swimmers that Brosas mentored also went on to swim at the Olympics themselves including Jessie Lacuna, Eric Buhain, Akiko Thomson, and Miguel Molina.
