Biography

Janie Wagstaff was a backstroker who swam both backstroke events at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and also won a gold medal with the medley relay. Wagstaff had won bronze medals in both backstrokes at the 1991 World Championships, also winning a medley relay gold there.

Wagstaff swam in college at the University of Florida. During her college career she won five Southeastern Conference individual titles, and helped Florida win five conference relay titles. She was named an All-American 11 times. Wagstaff left Florida to train for the 1996 Olympics, but did not make the US team for Atlanta.
