Biography

Setter Valery Goryushev started to play professional volleyball with Dynamo Moskva in 1990 and played there until 1994. With Dynamo, Goryushev never won a domestic title, his best finish a third at the 1992 and 1993 Russian championships. In 1994-95, Goryushev played one season with Iskra Odintsovo before playing abroad in Italian and Japanese leagues. Goryushev played five seasons in Italy, playing with Gioia del Volley (1995-96), Ravenna (1996-97, winning the CEV Cup Winners’ Cup in 1997, the second top official competition for men’s Volleyball clubs of Europe), Piemonte Volley (1999-2000, winning the Italian Supercup in 1999) and Trentino Volley (2000-02). In Japan, Goryushev played two seasons with Nippon Steel in 1997-99 and won the Japanese title with them in 1998. From 2002-04 Goryushev played again with Iskra Odintsovo and from 2004-05 he played with Lokomotiv-Izumrud Yekaterinburg before finishing his career in 2005-06 with NOVA Novokuybyshevsk. Goryushev was capped 111 times with the Russian national team between 1996-2000. He won Olympic silver in 2000, won the World Cup in 1999, silver at the 1999 European Championships and silver at the 2000 World League and bronzes at the 1996 and 1997 World Leagues.
