Biography

Cecil Fagan grew up in the Blackrock region of Dublin. He joined the Sandycove Swimming Club in 1918 and was the men’s winner of the 1923 Liffey Swim in Dublin. He was first chosen to be a member of the Irish Olympic water polo team in 1924, which lost its only match to Czechoslovakia. He was once again chosen in 1928, though the team did not fare much better, losing 11-1 to Belgium in the qualifying round. Fagan later became the president of the Leinster Branch of the Irish Amateur Swimming Association and was honored by Sandycove Swimming Club in 1968 for 50 years of membership. He died at a hospital in Rathgar in 1977.
