Biography

Lucio Ceccarini was an Italian champion both in swimming (relay) and water polo, both for Roman club SS Lazio Nuoto. In 1952, he was a member of the Italian team that took the bronze medal at the Helsinki Games. He repeated that performance at the 1954 European Championships, playing before a home crowd in Torino. After his active career, Ceccarini remained involved in the sport, first as a referee, later as chairman of the Centro Sportivo Aventino. His son Enrico followed him as a water polo player in Italy’s Serie A league, while his son Andrea became an Olympian in swimming.
