György Bokor began his sports career as an athlete of BEAC in 1946 before quickly switching to basketball. In 1948 Bokor played for the MAFC second division affiliate team, and in 1949 he was promoted to the “big ones”. Although the name of the club changed several times, he played there until the end of his career, winning three championship titles during this time.
Between 1950 and 1957 Bokor also played 30 times for the Hungarian national team. He was a member of the team that finished 13th at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. A year later he won silver at the European Championship in Moskva, before winning gold at the World College Championship in Budapest in 1954.
After finishing his active playing career, Bokor did not leave his affiliation, filling various positions. His wife is Mária Bárány, also a national basketball player, and his brother-in-law Árpád Bárány, was an Olympic champion fencer.
In addition to playing high-level sports Bokor studied and graduated from the Budapest Technical University in 1952 with a degree in architecture. In civilian life he worked as an architect at the Hungarian Sport Bureau, and was the technical manager of several facilities.
