Biography

Yavuz Selekman won wrestling bronze medals at consecutive World Championships, in 1961 and 1962, in the welterweight, Greco-Roman event. In 1963, he was the winner of this division at the Mediterranean Games. He was then selected to represent Turkey at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, but as a middleweight, where he was eliminated in round four. He retired from active competition after the Games and entered the film and television industry in 1965, amassing dozens of credits over the next four decades. He was still working on a television show when he fell ill in late 2003 and died after three months of treatment.
