Biography

During his career Soviet freestyle wrestler Sergey Timofeyev competed in the featherweight class. In 1975 Timofeyev won the USSR Cup and went on to become the European champion the following year. Also in 1976, he competed at the Montréal Olympics, where he defeated Kenneth Dawes and Benjamín Varela, before losing to Helmut Strumpf to finish sixth overall. After his competitive career he became a wrestling coach at a youth sports school in Tatarstan.
