Mohamed El-Rashidy was a member of the Al-Ahly basketball squad during the late 1940s and early 1950s. He made his major international début at the 1949 EuroBasket, where Egypt won the gold medal, and earned a second gold medal at the 1951 Mediterranean Games. He also took part in the team’s appearance in the tournament at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where Egypt won two of its three matches in the qualification round, but then lost two of its next three games in round one and was eliminated. El-Rashidy saw playing time in only two of these matches. He became much better known as a coach following his retirement from active competition, and spent the rest of his career training several generations of Egyptian basketball players and serving with the national federation.
