Sprinter and hurdler Elmar Lichtenegger was Austrian champion at 100 metres (1998) and 110 metres hurdles (1997-2002, 2005-07). He participated in the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. In 1996, he was eliminated in the hurdles heats but in 2000 reached the semi-final.
From 2003-04, Lichtenegger was suspended for 15 months due to a positive doping test (his original two-year ban was reduced). He claimed that contaminated food was to blame. In 2007, Lichtenegger tested positive again and was banned for life. He unsuccessfully attempted to appeal this decision in court.
Lichtenegger became a member of the National Council for the right-winged party FPÖ from 2003-05 and again briefly for three months in 2006. In the National Council, he served on the committees for Sports, National Defence, and Health. In September 2005, Lichtenegger took over the position of event marketing at the Austrian Athletics Federation.
Personal Best: 110H – 13.33 (1999).
