Larry Armstrong was part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War I where he reached the rank of sergeant. After the war Armstrong took up track and field, focusing on sprinting. He ran in the 100 and 200 metres at the 1924 Paris Olympics, reaching the quarter-finals in the latter. He was also part of the 4 × 100 metres relay team that reached the semi-finals in Paris. In the 1924 Canadian year lists he was third at 100 metres and sixth at 200 metres.
