Biography

Ted Savage began his track career in high school and specialized in the hurdles. He was selected to represent Canada in the 110 metres hurdles event at the 1908 London Olympics, where he was eliminated in round one. He was also entered into the long and triple jumps, but did not start those events. Savage’s true athletic talents, however, were in rugby football, and he played with the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association team from 1905 through 1908 to much acclaim.

Savage studied at McGill University and later worked as a chartered accountant. He served with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery during World War I and earned the Military Cross. At the end of the conflict, he returned to his old profession, but he died soon after in March 1920, at the tail end of the Spanish Flu pandemic.

Personal Best: 110H – 15.4 (1908).
