Biography

Spanish sportsman Juan Junqueras represented FC Barcelona in both athletics and hockey, competing in both sports at the Olympics. Junqueras was the champion of Catalonia in the 100 metres (1924–25) and the 200 metres (1924), as well as being the Spanish champion in the 200 metres, also in 1924. At the 1924 Paris Olympics he ran in the 100 and 200 metres, reaching the quarter-finals in the latter. He was also part of the Spanish quartet in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the Paris Games.

Junqueras played hockey from 1918 to 1933, winning the Catalan Championship with FC Barcelona in 1931. At the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics he participated in the hockey tournament where the Spanish team finished in joint-seventh place. Junqueras was only in his late-30s when he died in September 1938.

Personal Bests: 100 – 11.2 (1925); 200 – 23.2 (1924).
