Considered to be the best Spanish sprinter of the first half of the 20th century Félix Mendizábal won seven national titles and set records in both the 100 and 200 metres. Mendizábal was the national champion four times in the 100 metres (1917–20) and three times in the 200 metres (1917–19). In 1918 he set Spanish records in the 100 and 200 metres, with his time in the 100 metres standing as the national record until 1931 and lasting as a Basque record until 1958.
Mendizábal ran in the 100, 200, and 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics and reached the semi-finals in the 100 metres. Four years later he competed in the same three events at the 1924 Paris Olympics with his best performance again coming in the 100 metres where he advanced to the quarter-finals. Mendizábal was also the flagbearer for Spain at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Games.
