Biography

Reinhold Kesküll began regular training as a track and field athlete at Sport Tallinn in 1922 where he competed in sprint events. From 1923 to 1925 Kesküll was a five-time Estonian champion in races from 100 to 400 metres, and a five-time champion in relay events. He set individual national records in the 200 metres (1925) and the 100 metres (1930), along with four records in relay races. Kesküll ran in the 100, 200, and 400 metres at the 1924 Paris Olympics but did not advance from the heats in any of those.

In his early 30s Kesküll was a battalion team leader who took part in military defence competitions in addition to participating in the Estonian War of Independence. In 1941 he was sent to Sverdlovsk on a course for junior commanders but could not return home when the war broke out. Kesküll was arrested on 23 January 1942 on charges relating to anti-Soviet propaganda and was sentenced to ten years in the Tavda prison camp. He died there 20 months later in September 1943 with the exact circumstances of his death being unknown.

Personal Bests: 100 – 11.0 (1930); 200 – 23.1 (1925); 400 – 51.8 (1925).
