Biography

East German sprinter Kirsten Siemon married non-Olympian sprinter Frank Emmelmann – 1982 European Champion over 100 m – and in 1984 took his name. At Seoul she was eliminated in the semifinal of the 400 m and won the bronze medal with the 4x400 relay, running the second leg. Kirsten also won a bronze at the 1987 World Championships over 400 metres and a gold medal in the 4x400 relay, and two World Cups in the 4x100 relay (1981) and the 4x400 relay (1985). Her collection was completed by two gold medals at the 1982 and 1986 European Championships with the 4x400 relay, and some more medals in the European Indoor Championships in 1985-87. Domestically she collected five titles and several other podiums. In 1982 she was a part of the World Record 4x400 m GDR relay at Athens with 3:19.04. Emmelmann later worked selling sporting goods.
