Biography

Pentathlete Ramona Neubert came in fourth at the 1980 Moskva Olympic Games as the best non-Soviet. Her biggest wins came in 1983 winning the heptathlon World Championships, and in 1982, winning the Europeans. Her most successful year was 1983, when she also won the European Cup individually and with the team. Domestically Neubert won four East German titles: indoor pentathlon in 1978 and 1981, and outdoor heptathlon in 1981 and long jump in 1982. She set four heptathlon world records in the 1980s.

Neubert was married to sprinter and non-Olympian Christian Neubert, although they later divorced and married again. She was educated as a daycare educator, then as a graduate sports teacher and later became a sports coordinator in her hometown of Dresden for vocational schools. Many documents on doping in the former GDR became public after reunification, and Neubert was listed among the doped athletes.
