Biography

A pole vaulter, Peter Laufer married long jumper Hildrun Laufer-Claus. He was eighth at the 1958 European Championships and won East German national titles in 1959 and 1961, placing second in 1960 and 1963. In 1963 he also placed third at the nationals in the 110 high hurdles. At the 1960 Roma Olympic Games Laufer failed to reach the final. Laufer trained as a civil engineer and was a beekeeper as a hobby. He also worked with the board of the Association of Former Athletes of the German Athletics Federation.
