Biography

Karl Honz, a 400 metre runner, took part in the 1972 München Olympics and four years later in Montréal. In München he placed seventh in the 400 final and finished an unfortunate fourth with the 4x400 relay together. In Montréal he did not reach the final in the 400. He participated in the 1971 European Championships in the 200, and in 1974 won a gold medal in the 400 adding a relay silver in the 4x400. One year earlier he won the 400 and the relay at the European Cup. Indoors, he won a silver medal at the 1973 European Championships, winning gold in 1975. He won the 1973 West German title in the 400, winning relay titles in 1973 and 1974. In 1975 he was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf. Honz later became a businessman.

Personal Best: 400 – 44.70 (1972).
