In the late 1920s and early 1930s Greek track and field athlete Nikolaos Papanikolaou won multiple titles in both the triple jump and the high jump. Papanikolaou was the Greek national champion in both events in 1929 and 1930. He went one better at the Balkan Athletics Championships, winning three consecutive titles in each discipline from 1930 to 1932. For the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics he was scheduled to run in several sprint races but did not start in any of them. Four years later Papanikolaou did compete at the Olympics, finishing 13th in the triple jump at the 1932 Los Angeles Games.
