Biography

As a youth, Dmitry Bagryanov was a promising low hurdler with a personal best of 50.19, but at the end of 1980s he switched to long jumping and soon rose to be the top Russian long jumper at the start of 1990s. Bagryanov made his international début at the 1991 World Indoor Championships, where he was seventh in long jump. After producing a no mark in the qualifying round of the 1991 Tokyo World Championships, Bagryanov won his only major international tournament medal by winning the long jump gold at the 1992 European Indoor Championships. Bagryanov also competed at the 1992 Olympics, finishing seventh; 1994 European Championships, finishing fifth; and the 1994 European Indoor Championships, finishing sixth, to conclude his athletics career. Domestically Bagryanov won the Soviet indoor title in 1991, CIS outdoor title in 1992 and Russian outdoor title in 1994.
