Biography

Besides his Olympic bronze, Nikolay Kolesnikov won bronze in the 4x100 relay at the 1978 European Championships and was the 1978 European Indoor Champion in the 60 metres. He was with the Soviet 4x100 relay teams that won gold at the 1975 and 1977 Universiade. At the Soviet Championships, Kolesnikov won the 100 in 1979 and the 4x100 relay in 1980, also winning 200 silver in 1977 and 100 bronze in 1975.

Kolesnikov graduated from the Lesgaft Institute of Physical Culture (now Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health in St. Petersburg) with a pedagogy degree and after receiving the candidate of pedagogy degree in 1985, Kolesnikov worked as a lecturer in the track & field department of his alma mater.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.0 (1980); 200 – 20.96 (1977).
