Biography

Amy Acuff was a high jumper who competed at five consecutive Olympic Games, from 1996 to 2012. Her best finish was an unfortunate fourth at the 2004 Athina Olympics. She was the 1997 World University Games champion andrepresented the US at the World Championships every two years consecutively from 1999-2009. Her international medals include a silver at the 2001 Grand Prix Final and a bronze at the 2006 World Cup. Acuff attended UCLA where she won the NCAA title outdoors in 1995-96 and indoors in 1994-95 and 1997. She was a six-time USA Champion outdoors, winning in 1995, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007. She also won five USA indoor titles – 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Acuff retired after the 2009 season, working as a licensed acupuncturist, but returned late in 2011 to make her fifth Olympic team. She also worked as a model, with appearances on the cover of Playboy, and also in Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, Maxim, and Vogue. Acuff married US pole vaulter Tye Harvey.
