Biography

Robert Wilkinson holds a unique place in Olympic history as, at the 1906 Games, he crossed the line first in both walking events but was disqualified both times. His troubles stemmed from his duals with Eugen Spiegler (AUT), who finished close behind Wilkinson in both events, but was also disqualified twice. Wilkinson earned his selection for the Intercalated Games by finishing second in the AAA 2 mile walk in 1905 but confirmation of his suspect style came when he was disqualified in the event in 1906 after his return from Athinai.
