Biography

Mirl Buchner won a silver medal in the downhill and two bronze medals in the slalom and the giant slalom at the 1952 Winter Olympics at Oslo. Four years later in Cortina d’Ampezzo she could not repeat her results and finished 21st in the slalom and 27th in the giant slalom and had a fall in the downhill. Buchner was elected 1948 Sportswomen of the Year. From 1944-49 she won five national titles in downhill, alpine combination and slalom. She later ran a sports shop in her hometown of Garmisch.
