Biography

Solveig Pedersen was from the area outside Kristiansand in southern Norway, an area not known for its ski facilities. She broke through at the 1986 national championship, but never managed to win a Norwegian title, winning four silver and three bronze medals at the Norwegian Championships between 1986-1992. Internationally Pedersen first came to notice at the 1991 World Championship in Val di Fiemme, Italy, placing eighth in the 5 km classical race, fourth in the 15 km classical race, and she skied the third leg of the silver medal winning relay team that was second to Russia. She competed in three individual races at the Albertville Olympics, and was again on the Norwegian relay team that won a silver medal. Her only podium finish in the World Cup came at Klingenthal in 1991 when she was third in a 15 km classical race. Pedersen later became a consultant for young athletes in southern Norway.
