Biography

German sprinter Birgit, twin sister of Gabi Rockmeier, was a member of the 4x400 metres relay squad at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and the 4x100 metres squad at the Athens Games four years later. On both occasions, the German four was eliminated in the heats. In 2001, Rockmeier won gold at the World Championships with the 4 x100 metres (which was only adjudged in 2004 after the doping disqualification of the US team), and bronze at the World Indoors with the 4x400 relay. In 2002, she won the European Championships in the 4x400 and in 1998 the silver medal with the 4x100 squad.

In total, Birgit Rockmeier won 16 German national titles in individual and relay events. By profession, the twins both became administrative clerks, and both also occasionally did some youth coaching.

Personal Bests: 100 – 11.33 (2005); 400 – 51.45 (2000).
