Defender Peter Andersson started his career in 1978 with Timrå IK and from 1980-83 played with IF Björklöven. Andersson was drafted by the Washington Capitals of the NHL in 1980 and joined the team in 1983, playing there until 1986 when he was traded to the Québec Nordiques. After half a season with the Nordiques, Andersson moved back to Europe and resumed play with Björklöven, winning a Swedish title in 1987. In 1989-90, Andersson played one season in Switzerland, playing half a season with EV Zug and the other half with EHC Kloten. Andersson finished his career with Björklöven in 1990-95.
Internationally, Andersson won an Olympic bronze in 1988 and was World Champion in 1987 and 1991, while taking silver at the 1990 World Championships. He also was runner-up at the 1984 Canada Cup, was European champion in 1990, won silvers at the 1982 and 1991 European Championships and bronze at the 1983 and 1989 European Championships. He was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #132 in ice hockey. After finishing his sporting career, Andersson worked as an ice hockey coach, as assistant coach of IF Björklöven, MoDo Hockey and SC Langnau Tigers in Switzerland.
