Biography

Slavomír Bartoň spent more than 20 years playing ice hockey in domestic leagues in Czechoslovakia. Bartoň first played for the fourth division side Sokol Kurim in the 1943–44 season before eventually playing in the Czechoslovak Hockey League in 1948 with Spartak Brno. After finishing as the runners-up in the league with ATK Praha in 1951–52 he then enjoyed great success with Kometa Brno, winning seven league titles from 1954 to 1962.

From 1952 to 1958 Bartoň also played for the Czechoslovakia national team where he won bronze at the World Ice Hockey Championships in 1955 and 1957. He represented the national team at the 1952 and 1956 Olympics where the team finished fourth and fifth, respectively. In addition to being a very skilled ice hockey player Bartoň also played top-flight football in the Czechoslovak football league in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
