Biography

Manfred Beer became World Champion in the relay in 1978 and 1979, also winning a bronze medal at the 1977 World Championships. Domestically he won relay titles in 1977-78 and 1980, and was runner-up 1975. Beer won a bronze medal at the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Games in the relay together with Frank Ullrich, Karl-Heinz Menz and Manfred Geyer, finishing behind the Soviet Union and Finland, and also finished 27th in the 20 km.

He later married former sport acrobat Heidi and they became parents of biathletes Katja (after her marriage also father-in-law of her husband Jan Wüstenfeld) and Romy Beer. The family ran a biathlon camp at Zinnwald and a small pub called “Beerenbude” after German reunification.
