Biography

Hansjörg, brother of Klaus Farbmacher, was a two-time Austrian champion cross-country skier and biathlete. He came 11th with the biathlon relay at the 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics and competed in the 20 km biathlon and the 30 km cross-country with limited results. Four years later at Grenoble, Hansjörg was only selected for the 30 km cross-country and finished 50th.

In 1962-63, 1965-67, 1969, and 1970 Farbmacher won the Austrian national title with the Tyrol relay team. In 1975 he won the individual biathlon title over 10 km.

In 1971, the Austrian alpinists Robert Kittl, Klaus Hoi, Hans Mariacher, and Farbmacher set out to cross the main Alpine ridge in Reichenau an der Rax. Between the start and their destination, the southern French seaside resort of Nice, they covered a total of 1,917 kilometres, and 85,510 metres of climbing. Although they did not choose the shortest or easiest route for their project, they did take in the most impressive peaks in the Alps along the way and arrived in France after just 40 days. By profession Farbmacher was a policeman.
