Biography

Lambis Nikolaou was a civil engineer who earned his degree from the Technical Universität de München, studying there from 1954-59. He later worked as a civil engineer and public works contractor in Athina, serving several such roles with the Greek government.

In sports administration Nikolaou joined the Executive Board of the Hellenic Olympic Committee in 1985 and served as Presidet from 1985-92 and 1997-2004. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) from 1989-93 and 1997-2009. He served as Vice-President from 2001-04 of the Board of the Ephoria of the International Olympic Academy (IOA).

Nikolaou became an IOC Member in 1986 and later served on the Executive Board from 2001-05 and as IOC Vice-President from 2005-09. He also served on the following IOC Commissions: Member (1988-2009), then Chairman of the Commission for Culture and Olympic Education (2010-14); Marketing (1995-2014); IOC 2000 (1999); Nominations (2010-14); and the Coordination for the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2014 in Nanjing (2010-14).
