Biography

Keeth Smart was a sabre fencer who competed at the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympic Games, winning a silver medal in team sabre at Beijing in 2008. Smart learned to fence at the Peter Westbrook Foundation, founded by his mentor, Peter Westbrook.

Smart attended St. John’s University, later earning an MBA from Columbia University. While at St. John’s he won the NCAA sabre title in 1997 and 1999, placing second in 2001. Smart was US Champion in 2002 and 2004 and in 2003 became the world’s top ranked sabreur, the first time an American man had achieved that honor.

Smart later worked for Google and Bank of American before becoming a senior vice-president of Chelsea Piers Fitness. His sister, Erinn Smart, was also a fencer who won a silver medal in women’s team foil at Beijing.
