Alfred Schmidtberger

Canoer Alfred Schmidtberger had his first major international podium finish at the 1950 World Championships, where he won bronze in the K-4 10,000 alongside Walter Piemann and the non-Olympians Otto Lochner and Alfred Krammer. Schmidtberger then traveled to the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where he was ninth among 17 competitors in the K-1 10,000.

His next stop was the 1954 World Championships, where he took bronze in the K-1 4x500 metres relay with Herbert Wiedermann, Max Raub, and Hermann Salzner. Schmidtberger and Salzner then represented Austria in the K-2 10,000 at the 1956 Melbourne Games, but placed 11th out of 12th competitors. After retiring from active competition Schmidtberger served as a sports administrator in Linz.
