Biography

Chua Boon Huat made his début as a 17-year-old with the Malaysian bronze medal-winning hockey team at the 1998 Commonwealth Games and earned 337 caps playing for Malaysia from 1998-2013. Chua played in several other major internationals such as the World Cup, Olympics, Champions Trophy, Asian Games and the Asia Cup, and skippered the 2001 National Junior team that played in the Junior World Cup in Hobart, Australia. Chua played for the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club for 10 years, but in 2002 moved to the German League, playing for Rot-Weiß München. In 2005 he played for Teddington HC in the English Hockey’s League Premier Division while, in 2008, he played for Auckland in the New Zealand League. He died fairly young from serious head injuries after his car struck a water-tank lorry.
