Biography

Ruedi Martin had a brief, but fruitful, career representing Switzerland on the international bobsledding scene. He earned his first major medal, silver, in the four-man event at the 1976 Winter Olympics alongside Ueli Bächli, Sepp Benz, and Erich Schärer. The quartet repeated this feat at the 1978 and 1979 World Championships and the 1980 Winter Olympics, and also won the 1980 World Championships. Marti retired from active competition after the Games and returned to private life. Prior to taking up bobsledding he had been a track and field athlete, and was the Swiss junior champion in the pole vault in 1968.
