Biography

Mazhar Nazım Resmer’s athletic career was relatively brief and culminated in his selection to represent Turkey at the 1924 Paris Olympics. He was slated to compete in three events, the 200 metres, the 4x100 metres relay, and the triple jump, but did not start any of them. He soon gave up sport to pursue a career in the fine arts, and attended post-secondary education in Turkey and France.

Resmer’s earliest works were in stained glass, which he produced in a workshop in France before returning to Turkey in 1933. There, he worked as both an artist and a teacher, becoming one of the more prominent producers in the medium. He also studied caricature and eventually built a secondary career as a cartoonist, working with the magazine Şaka in the 1940s and publishing works on both politics and everyday life.
