Simone Raineri was a specialist in the quadruple sculls, in which he was 1995 World Junior Champion and gold medalist at Sydney 2000 as the stroke. In the same event, he won a European silver in 2007, and three World medals – a silver at Cambridge in 2010 and two bronzes at Lucerne in 2001 and Sevilla in 2003. After a disappointing 2004 Olympics, Raineri helped Italy’s quad win silver behind Poland at Beijing 2008. He later competed at his fourth Olympics at London in 2012.
