Biography

Czech tennis player Dája Bedáňová turned professional in 2000 after being named the WTA Newcomer of the Year. Bedáňová had a short pro career, lasting just five years, achieving a career-best singles ranking of #16 in the world in July 2002 and a doubles ranking of #34 in the world in June 2002. She won two titles during her career, both at the WTA Bratislava, winning the singles title in October 2000, followed by the doubles title with Elena Bovina a year later.

Bedáňová had her best individual Grand Slam performance at the 2001 US Open, reaching the quarter-finals. On her way to the last eight she beat Joannette Kruger, Silvija Talaja, Meghann Shaughnessy, and Monica Seles, before losing to Martina Hingis. One year later Bedáňová also reached the doubles quarter-finals at the 2002 Australian Open. In 2000 she competed in the singles and the doubles at the Sydney Olympics, partnering with Květoslava Hrdličková in the latter.
