Josef Nairz won a silver medal in Olympic two-man at the Innsbruck riding alongside pilot Erwin Thaler, Adolf Koxeder, and Reinhold Durnthaler. Nairz also competed in the two-man with Thaler, in which they finished eighth. The same four-man team that had won silver in Innsbruck had also been third at the 1963 World Championships, giving Nairz a bronze medal there.
