Biography

Tommy Ross was originally selected as the reserve to the Great British speed skating team at the 1948 Olympics, but was called onto the team in place of Johnny Cronshey in the 1500 metres and Bruce Peppin in the 5,000. Ross took part in the 1949 all-round European Championships at Davos, being placed last after disqualification. The following year, he competed in the all-round World Championships at Eskilstuna, Sweden, finishing 24th after the first three distances, failing to qualify for the fourth and final distance, 10,000 metres. Ross emigrated to the United States, and became a naturalized US citizen in 1963.

Personal Bests: 500 – 46.8 (1950); 1500 – 2:29.2 (1952); 5000 – 8:54.3 (1949); 10000 – 19:39.8 (1948).
