Biography

East German Carsta Genäuß won seven gold medals at the Flatwater Canoe World Championships with three in the K-2 500 event (1981, 1983, 1985) and four in the K-4 500 event (1978, 1981, 1983, 1985). At the 1980 Moskva Olympics, which were boycotted by many Western countries, she also earned a gold medal in the K2-500 together with Martina Bischof.

Genäuß then married non-Olympian canoeist Jens Kühn. After her active sporting career, Genäuß worked as a commercialist in the Konsum-Genossenschaft Dresden and later as a restorer in the State Office for Archeology in Saxony.
