Alpine Skiing at the 1980 Winter Olympics

Dates 14 – 23 February 1980
Medal Events 6

The Winter Olympics returned to Lake Placid, but when the Games were held here in 1932, Alpine skiing was not on the program. All the Alpine events took place on Whiteface Mountain, located in the town of Wilmington, about 13 miles north of Lake Placid, a ski mountain with the highest vertical drop in the Eastern United States. There was one minor change in the program, with the women’s giant slalom changing to the total time of two runs, as the men had contested since 1968.
