The women’s snowboard big air event featured a strong field led by two-time defending Olympic champion Anna Gasser, reigning World Champion Kokomo Murase, and New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, the Beijing 2022 silver medallist. Sadowski-Synnott topped the standings after the qualification round, with the other expected medal contenders also advancing, including Gasser, who was pursuing a third Olympic title. South Korea’s Yu Seung-Eun also emerged as a surprise medal threat with an impressive qualifying performance.
In the final, Murase landed two triple-cork combinations, taking control of the standings, while Sadowski-Synnott remained a consistent threat to the gold through to the end of the round. In the end, it was Murase who secured her first Olympic gold medal with a total of 179.00 points, with Sadowski-Synott taking the silver, and the 18-year-old Yu of South Korea taking the bronze to cap an impressive Olympic debut. In her attempt at a three-peat Gasser had only one clean run, her third, and finished eighth.
