Biography

Darian Townsend competed at three Olympics for South Africa, winning a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in the 4x100 freestyle relay. Townsend attended college in the United States, starting at the University of Florida, and later graduating from the University of Arizona. He swam for both colleges and remained in the United States and in 2014 became a US citizen. Townsend then competed for the USA at 2015 Pan American Games, winning a silver and bronze medal in relays, and at the 2014 Short-Course World Championships, where he won five medals, including two golds in relays. Townsend competed at the 2016 USA Olympic Trials in swimming, but did not make the Olympic team.
