Biography

Heidi Reineck won three bronze medals as a freestyle swimmer with West German relays at the 1968 Mexico City and the 1972 München Olympics. In 1968 she was successful with the 4x100 medley, same as in München, adding a third bronze in the 4x100 freestyle relay. Individually she had her best result as fifth in the 1972 100 freestyle final. At the 1970 Europeans (4x100 medley) and the 1973 Worlds (4x100 freestyle) she added two more bronze medals to her collection.

In 1968, she won West German titles in the 100, 200 and 400 freestyle. From 1969-71 she again won the 100 freestyle titles, and in 1970 added the 200 metres. In 1973 she was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. She later became a sports teacher in her home town of Bayreuth.
