Biography

Ukrainian sprinter Vladimir Tkachenko had quite a long career in the international arena, more than 10 years. During that time he competed at the 1988 Olympics, where he won silver in the 4x100 freestyle relay, the 1991 World Championships, where he won bronze in the same event, and at six European Championships (1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1993), winning 50 freestyle gold in 1989, 4x100 free relay gold in 1983, 50 freestyle bronze in 1991, and 4x100 freestyle relay bronze in 1987. Domestically, Tkachenko won nine Soviet titles – three in 100 free (1985, 1987, 1990), two in the 4x100 free relay (1983-84), two in the medley relay (1987-88), one in the 1987 50 free, and one in the 1988 4x50 freestyle relay.

Personal Best: 50 m freestyle – 22.64 (1989); 100 m freestyle – 49.52 (1988).
