Biography

Volleyball player Beate Bühler was a member of the West German women’s team at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics that finished sixth after losing the match for fifth place against Korea. Bühler won 341 international caps and participated in four European and three World Championships. Bühler played with TuS Stuttgart (1978-83), SV Lohhof (1983-87, German Champion 1983-84, 1986-87, and German Cup Winner 1983-84 and 1986), Racing Paris in France (1987-91, French Champion 1988-91), TSG Tübingen (1991-92) and USC Münster (1992-95, CEV Cup Winner 1994). Together with Danja Müsch Bühler won the 1994 Beach Volleyball European title, and was placed second in 1996 and third in 1995. Bühler returned to the Olympics with Müschat Atlanta in 1996 and finished seventh. In 1995 and 1996, Bühler was named Beach Volleyball Player of the Year in Germany.

Bühler married Frenchman Stéphane Faure and moved to Gradignan near Bordeaux. For her exemplary voluntary work in a wide variety of areas (prisoner visits, refugee aid, and so on), she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2020.
