Biography

In 1976, the West German water polo team with goalkeeper Peter Röhle on the squad reached the final round, but then placed sixth and last at the Olympic tournament at Montréal. Röhle continued to play on the national team through 1989. In 1981 and 1989, the team won the gold medal and in 1985 the bronze medal at the Europeans. In 1982 they earned the bronze medal at the Worlds. At the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, West Germany then won another bronze medal. In 1988 at Seoul the team finished an unfortunate fourth, losing the bronze medal match 14-13 against the Soviet Union. In total, he earned 414 international caps.

Domestically, Röhle played with Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 and helped them win 18 West German national titles between 1979 and 1997. In 1982, 1984, 1985 and 1989, the team also won the European Champions Cup. In 1997 he retired.

By profession, Röhle was a policeman but later studied sports and became a professional water polo coach. He again helped Spandau 04 win eight more national titles. In 2006, he moved to the management department of Spandau 04. In addition to his club job, he also managed the youth national team until 2011.
