Biography
Sprint canoeist Katrin Wagner-Augustin won four Olympic titles and participated in four Olympic Games from 2000 at Sydney until 2012 at London. She won two gold medals in 2000, and one each in 2004 and 2008. She also won a silver medal in 2012 and a bronze in 2008. Wagner-Augustin added 10 World Championship titles, along with 16 silver and two bronze medals. At the Europeans, she won 13 gold, 11 silver, and six bronze medals. She also won 49 German Championships in flatwater canoeing.
Wagner-Augustin married her teammate Lars Augustin in 2004 and together they raised two children. At the closing ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games she was chosen to carry the German flag. She was one of the most successful sprint canoeists ever in Germany.
Wagner-Augustin was elected Sportswoman of the Year in Brandenburg in 2006 and 2008, and was awarded the 2004 BAMBI TV-prize. She was also awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Professionally she worked as a physician assistant and was employed as a sports soldier at the German Bundeswehr. Later she studied sports at the trainer academy of Köln, and became a flatwater coach.
